Our last successes...
Backpackers Association was founded in 2002. when in Serbia a word “backpacking” didn’t officialy existed. We composed and passed on a document where we clearly explain its meaning and therefore we registered it in domestic dictionary. Our first inquiry Inquiry "DoYou Travel" showed that backpacking was completely unknown to youth in january in 2003. when our organisation began with its work.
In elapsed period there were many attempts to complete our mission in various ways. Some of them were more and the others were less successful. It’s hard to tell how much we contributed to current situation of youth tourism in Serbia, and it is much harder to quit. Still, we think that our share is considerable, above all thanks to media campaign which we conveyed for all the time in newspapers, on tv, radio and Internet. On spring tourism fair in Belgrade in 2005, the first domestic hostel network was presented which was founded by Student’s center. During the same year lots of illegal and one legal private hostel were opened, and one illegal hostel was even closed by inspection. In the beginning of 2006, after 3 years of our presence, in Serbia was finally oficially iitiated a term hostel. The proof that this is just a beginning is announciation of establishing The Camping Association of Serbia, which is going to help the development of camping tourism in our country.
Our first project is the web site on address www.backpackers.org.yu and it is working since the establishment of organisation. It contains all relative information which relate to backpacking as a way of travelling and to Serbia as a tourist destination. The site is very visited, mostly by youth who can in a modern way and easily get informed about what is backpacking, how they can go to a trip like that by themselves, what to take along, where to dine and overnight, which discounts to use, how to find fellow-traveller or host. The site promote Serbia as tourist destination by giving information about all locations which should be visited. The aim is to make youth more interested in knowing their own country better and also to attract foreign tourists through english version of the site.
The project "Put your backpack on shoulder and strart travelling" was carried out in the end of 2004. and at the beginning of 2005. as a set of tribunes at Belgrade’s high schools and gymnasioums. Over itinerary with slides and informal conversation with highschoolers, we introduced youth with backpacker’s way of travelling, with different discount cards for accommodation and conveyance, equipment for camping and with advices for safe journey through Serbia and also abroad. The project is backed up by Parliament of Belgrade, The Ministry for Education and The Ferial Association.
The project "Working Camp in Jastrebac" was carried out in july in 2005. in cooperation with Young scouts from Serbia. It assembled youth from different European countries which were besides voluntary work (arranging promenades and marking paths in Jastrebac) enjoying in intercourse with hosts and detours our natural beauties in camp environment. The team of project coordiantors from Backpackers Associations in this way managed to apply acquirements from seminar for working camp guiding and to achieve valuable experiences in this responsible task.
Backpackers Associations gave a huge contribuion to the promotion of backpacking as a way of youth tourism on various ways. Our web site became an inspiration to many media which began to interest in this theme and to write about the backpacking, to invite us in showes on a television and radio and to publish our texts. klik
During its work Backpackers Associations achieved successful cooperation with related youth organisations and administrators of websites in our country and also abroad. On our site you can find links for sites about travel on a byke, about rafting, hostels, mountain centres, finding host guide and others related information. All important promotions of voyage for youth become a part of our site as a way of inviting to evenings of travel, to rafting, marathon, jaunt, intercoursing, exhibitions, films projections, etc. Our activities began in Ferial Association when we promoted youth tourism on Tourism Fair in Belgrade. Since then we have followed and published everything about fair offerings, and we have writed about work of Tourist ogranisations from all over the Serbia. We made contact with them in april in 2003, when we asked them by letter to send us some completed informations about their locations. We collected lots of brochures about various places in our country, but also about interesting foreign destinations. Also we follow work of students organisations which deal with enabling divers discounts and we inform our visitors about them. Occasionally we organize intercourses in nature and in that way we amuse our members to stay active, to travel, to explore. We have large number of volunteers who collect information, translate on english language and who accomplish the project.
