Ludaš lake
History
According to tradition of their origin, both the village
and the lake got their name after the goose. Namely,
in the times when the Turks come to this area, there
was large number of wild-geese here. Local residents
caught them and sold them at the markets, that is how
they got the name "Ludaš" (someone who sells
geese). The first written source is a document from
1335. which mentions "Ludaš" as "Ludasegyhazpuszta",
and then during the rule of the Turks in 1543. it is
mentioned as "Ludaš". In 1740. tobacco growers
from "Szeged" moved to this unpopulated Ludaš
dessert and established first the settlement Ludaš and
later Hajdukovo.
